Chervil musk

Chervil Musk is a perennial herb of the family Apiaceae, cultivated for its leaves and seeds taste sweet and anise, used as condiments.

Scientific name: Myrrhis odorata (L.) Scop., Family Apiaceae (Umbelliferae).

Common name: Perpetual chervil, chervil Spain, fern musky, large parsley. From Myrrhenkerbel in: garden myrrh, es: perifollo Oloroso, it: mirride odorosa.

Description

Chervil Musk is a perennial herb that grows up to 1 m high. Stems erect, hollow, much-branched. The large leaves, up to 30 cm, soft, are deeply indented, bi-or tripinnate, and resemble those of ferns. Small white flowers grouped in umbels large and spread with a radius of 10 to 12 cm. Seeds rather large, 25 mm, black.

Distribution

Native to central Europe (Switzerland, Austria) and southern (Albania, former Yugoslavia, Italy, Spain).

Widely naturalized elsewhere in the culture.

Culture

Prefers a cool, well smoked and exposure shaded. Propagation is by seed or by division in autumn of clumps in spring. Harvest a few months to a year after planting. Pick the leaves as necessary and remove the flower stalks. The sheets can be stored by freezing.

Use

The fresh leaves, raw in aniseed odor characteristic can be used to flavor salads, salad, omelets and soups ... The seeds are used to flavor sweets and liqueurs to prepare.
