The White Mint

White mint (Mentha suaveolens, Synonym: Mentha rotundifolia) is a plant belonging to the mint family (Labiatae or Lamiaceae). It is a plant food rich, loamy soil. The species is found in grass verges, along riverbanks and on open ground. The plant is on the Dutch Red List of rare plants and fallen sharply.


The plant is 25-75 cm high, is above ground and underground shoots and has a strong odor. The leaves have an apple-like odor. The stems and the bowls are densely hairy. The current, broadly-oval leaves are 3-5 x 2-4 cm and have a serrated edge. The underside of the leaf and the top coat.


The white flowers from July to October mint with light lilac to almost white flowers. Inflorescence a schijnaar, which is built from appearance wreaths.


The fruit is a four-part split fruits.


The white coin is widely used as ground cover in ornamental gardens. Even as a kitchen herb. Mentha suaveolens 'Variegata' is a cultivar with white edged leaves and a pineapple-like odor.
