Pseudocydonia

Pseudocydonia sinensis (Chinese quince, m. of Japan) is the only species of the genus Pseudocydonia, is a deciduous tree or semiperennifolio of the family Rosaceae, native to eastern Asia, China.

It is closely related to the European genus Cydonia and Chaenomeles gender-East Asia, but differ in serrated blades, and the last has no thorns, and flowers made simple, not in groups.

Grows about 10 to 18 m high with a dense crown and thin. Leaves alternate, simple, 6-12 cm long and 3-6 cm wide with serrated margins.

The flowers are 2.5-4 cm in diameter with five petals pale pink, blooms in mid spring. The fruit is a pome large ovoid, 12-17 cm long, with five carpels, ripens in late autumn.

Uses

The fruit is hard and astringent, softens and astringency will endure after frost. Can be used as the quince jam to. Also grown as an ornamental plant in southern Europe. Their nectar is highly demanded by the bees.
