Pulsatilla koreana

Pulsatilla koreana, the Korean pasque flower (Korean name is Hal-me-kot, 할미꽃), is one species of the genus Pulsatilla. P. koreana is a hairy, tufted, perennial herb. P. koreana is a native perennial plant growing in Korea and it is used as a traditional Korean herbal medicine.

Pulsatilla koreana has 6 petal-like segments that has a silky exterior; stamens in a central boss surrounded by a ring of staminoids. Leaves are long (3–4 cm long and 2-3 lobed) and pinnate in a basal rosette and there are five leaflets which are white wooly pubescent beneath.

P. koreana has perianth bell-shaped flowers with scapose and pendent. P. koreana is in flower in spring. The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are pollinated by insects.

They are solitary terminal on peduncle 30 – 40 cm. The dimension of flower is about 35 mm long, 12 mm across, and its color is usually red-purple. Fruit is borne in heads with long feather styles.
