Lamium galeobdolon

The yellow false nettle (Lamium galeobdolon scientific name (Carl von Linné), Carl von Linné, 1759) is a small perennial herb with yellow flowers and labiati in the family Lamiaceae.

Morphology

The plant is usually little hairy though some parts (leaves) are almost tomentose. The plant height varies between 15 and 70 cm. The organic form is emicriptofita scaposa (H SCAP), which is a herbaceous plant, perennial overwintering buds at ground level and covered with litter or snow, with a floral axis more or less straight, with few leaves.

Roots

The roots are from secondary rhizome.

Leaves

The leaves, petioles are all heart-shaped at the base, while the apex is sharp. Lower ones are ovate, while the upper ones are more elliptic-lanceolate. The habit of the leaves is driving or hanging. Along the stem are arranged in opposite pairs and have no stipules.

The surface is almost tomentose pubescent (especially on the margins), the edge is irregularly and coarsely toothed and the lower side there are the obvious ribs. The leaf color is dark green. Size of lower leaves: width 8 cm, length 12 cm. Size of upper leaves: width 7 cm, length 11 cm.

Inflorescence

The inflorescence is increased in several superimposed axillary whorls along the stem. Each whorl is composed of several flowers (2 to 10) arranged circularly crown resting on two Leafiness bracts (or leaves only smaller than those along the stem), and these are sub-sessile. The next whorl of bracts are arranged alternately.

Flower

The flowers are hermaphrodite, zygomorphic (the cup is actinomorphic), tetracyclic (with four whorls of fundamental angiosperm: corolla-calyx - androecium - harem) and pentamers (calyx and corolla composed of five elements). Also omogami (self-fertile), fragrance (or only slightly balsamic aroma, however unpleasant) but rich in nectar.
